Director's Statement

This film is a love letter to my own parents. Through the course of making the short film and adapting the feature script, my father passed away. Everything about this project became so much more real for me. I'm also watching my mother deteriorate with aging and try to spend as much time with her as possible - and I know I'm far from alone in this struggle. I'm essentially living the world of the main character as I travel between NYC and our farm in the Midwest. So while the shell of this movie is an elevated science fiction film dealing with existential questions about life and death on a grand scale, at its heart, it is an intimate story about a daughter and her father, loss, and the depths of love and choice.

My love for science also shines through in this project. Since I was little, I've always read science books and wondered about how the natural world works. I remember performing small experiments with our junior science lab kit. Growing up on a small farm in the Midwest, I also knew I wanted to work with the stark contrast between the city and nature. Therein lies a perfect dichotomy to explore clashing philosophical ideas, both visually and through character. The last few years have highlighted so much about inequality, health, and technology. I think now more than ever is an important time to explore technologies that are moving ever faster toward us, particularly one such as rejuvenation, due to all the profound and complex ripples it would have through our society.
